VENTURA, Calif. -

Due to the drought, the city of Ventura is asking all of its residents to skip their car wash for this month.

The message is inspired by California's Save Our Water message, "A Little Dirt Won't Hurt."

Water officials hope this message will educate people to how much water is used to wash one car. Professional car washes use about 45 gallons of recycled water for every car. Washing your car at home will use about 135 gallons per car.

The city has also turned this challenge into a contest. You can post pictures of your dirty car to the city's Facebook page and the dirtiest car will win.
