Ventura Film Society welcomes Gidget to town

Gidget is the inspiration behind 'Accidental Icon' documentary

VENTURA, Calif. -

A new generation of surfers and film goers will get a chance to meet the girl nicknamed "Gidget" on the beach in Malibu in the 1960s.

Her real name is Kathy Kohner Zuckerman. Her father wrote the best-selling book that led to a hit TV show and classic movies.

Brian Gillogly directed the documentary "Accidental Icon: The Real Gidget Story."

A newly released version of the documentary will be screen Tuesday at 7p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Beach Hotel, 450 E. Harbor Blvd., Ventura.

The screening will take place in the Bay View Room overlooking the Ventura Pier.

Gidget and the director will be on hand for a question and answer period after the screening.

Donations will be taken to cover the cost of the program at the door.
