MOORPARK, Calif. - Passengers were evacuated off an Amtrak train bound for Goleta Saturday after a man wearing a bulletproof vest barricaded himself in an onboard bathroom.
The incident took place in Moorpark at around 9 a.m.
The suspect boarded the train in Simi Valley, put on the camouflaged vest and locked himself in the bathroom. Passengers said the man was acting strangely.
93 passengers and five crew were evacuated from the train as a SWAT team and bomb squad from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office made contact with the man.
SWAT team members were quickly able to detain the man.
He has been identified as Don Hamilton, 21, of Simi Valley. Hamilton was unarmed and reportedly did not make any threats to anyone on the train. The vest he was wearing was determined to be a vest often used in paintball.
Hamilton was booked into the pre-trial detention facility in Ventura. He is suspected of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The train was delayed for over two hours due to the incident. Bomb squad personnel searched the train before passengers were cleared to re-enter.
