OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department and Ventura County Crimestoppers have launched a new campaign and program to combat gun violence in the city of Oxnard.
"Break the Silence! Stop gun violence!” is a tip reward program that asks residents to anonymously report illegal possession of firearms.
The program aims to crack down on gun violence in the wake of nine homicides in the city in 2017 and dozens of arrests for illegal firearms.
Callers can relay information to the Oxnard Police Department in a safe and completely anonymous way and any callers whose tips are verified can receive up to $100 per firearm recovered.
There are a number of ways to report illegal firearms as part of the program. You can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS, text “BUSTED” plus your message to 274637, or visit their website.
Callers are asked to mention the code “OPDGUNS” to be routed directly to the Oxnard Police Department “Break the Silence! Stop Gun Violence!” program.
You can also call the Gun and Gang Hotline at (805) 982-7043.
