VENTURA CO., Calif. - The Ventura County Grand Jury is calling for improvements in the fire response after a review of the "Springs" fire last year.
A report says the helicopter fleet was not adequate for an early season brush fire.
This 24,000 fire broke out May 5, 2013 and spread through the hills above Camarillo towards both Newbury Park and out to the Pacific Coast. No homes were lost.
The Grand Jury says the early response was limited to one Ventura County Fire chopper because of mechanical issues and other assignments.
The recommendation includes an upgrade to the aging chopper fleet and an increase in the mechanical staff.
