VENTURA, Calif. - A 73-year-old man was killed Saturday evening after his vehicle was struck by a train in Ventura.
The collision took place just before 7 p.m. at the train tracks near the intersection of South California Street and Harbor Boulevard.
Police said the driver was traveling southbound on California Street when he stopped on the railroad tracks as the crossing guard arms came down.
The eastbound Amtrak train attempted to stop but ultimately struck the right side of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle died at the scene.
