Body found in Ventura River ruled accidental drowning

VENTURA, Calif. - [UPDATE] Authorities have announced that a 39-year-old man died from an accidental drowning in the Ventura River. No foul play is suspected.

The man's name has not yet been released.


The Ventura Police Department is investigating a possible suspicious death after a body was located in the Ventura River.

The body was discovered at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Ventura River near the Highway 101 overpass.

Police, Major Crimes detectives and Ventura firefighters responded to the scene. There they discovered the body of a deceased man submerged in the water.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was called in to help recover the body.

The Ventura County Coroner took possession of the body and is investigating the cause of death. 

The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
