VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -

100 volunteers, mostly airmen, raked four beaches and returned with 600 pounds of garbage and 200 pounds of recycling.

The cleanup take place close to America Recycles day, which is this Friday.

They picked up more trash this year than they have in their four years holding this annual cleanup.

There were prizes for those who brought back the most amount of trash and found the most interesting piece of garbage.

After the event, volunteers made a pledge to use reusable water bottles at work and sort out recyclables from their garbage at home.
