SAN LUIS OBISPO,Calif. -

Known worldwide and a local favorite, the iconic Madonna Inn is focusing on the community as it prepares for Valentine's Day.

Since its opening in 1958, Valentine's Day has been one of the inn's busiest holidays.

Amanda Littlejohns , artistic director of the Madonna Inn, said  “Mr. Madonna did a lot of traveling and everywhere he went every place was all cookie-cutter rooms.”  Mr. Madonna wanted to create a place that was unique.

Julie Hood  a guest, said “We had happy memories here.”  Julie and William Hood spent their honeymoon at the Inn 49 years ago. The couple says it’s no cookie-cutter experience.

William Hood said,  “My wife had seen brochures about it and asked for a French country room.”

All these years later officials at the inn work to give a unique and memorable experience to their guests.

The staff created hundreds of their iconic heart cakes, a dining room  that sets the right mood, complete with hearts and baby cupids, and even carriage rides.

Valentine’s Day specials go through Monday.
