Locals lace up running shoes to support elementary schools and education

Lemon Run

GOLETA, Calif. - Hundreds of people showed up to participate in The Goleta Education Foundation's Lemon Run on Sunday morning.

There was a 10k, 5k and 1k Family Fun Run offered. The course went along The Obern Trail bike path. The race began and ended at Goleta Beach.

Emcee Andrew Firestone got the crowd revved up and cheered people on as they crossed the finish line.

Money raised benefits the Goleta Education Foundation (GEF) which supports specific programs in the nine elementary schools in the Goleta Union School District.

"We find there are students who are behind in their grade level, who need extra support," said board president Lisa Rivas. "There are teachers who want equipment and resources to be able to teach more dynamically and engage the students in a different way."

Rivas said GEF is there to support all of those efforts.
