NEW CUYAMA, Calif. -

Emergency crews are on scene of a deadly crash on Highway 166 West of Aliso Canyon Road near New Cuyama.

Santa Barbara County Fire sent three engines to the accident scene at 7:37 a.m. Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol and AMR also responded to the collision. County fire said the driver of an oil tanker rear-ended another semi-truck causing extensive damage to the oil truck front cab. The male driver of the oil truck was found dead once crews arrived on scene.  

A total of five semi-truck are involved in the crash. No other injuries were reported. Crews on scene said there is a large debris field across the roadway.

There is also a 30-40 gallon diesel fuel leak from one of the trucks. Santa Barbara County Hazardous Materials Unit is working to clean up the spill.

One lane in each direction is open at this time for traffic flow. Highway 166 was closed in both direction for about an hour.

Heavy duty tow-trucks are on the way to remove the vehicles from the crash site.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by CHP.

Three semis have collided on S-R 166 near New Cuyama.  The accident happened at around 7:30 Tuesday morning.

According to CHP at least one person is dead.  They are also reporting that one truck is completely broken apart.  Another one has the tanker on wheels but the tractor not upright.  Fuel is also said to be leaking onto the roadway.

The accident has shutdown the east bound lanes on the 166.
