SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

A group of fitness enthusiasts in Santa Maria are working to help better the lives of families of children with cancer.

Since the city doesn’t have a cancer treatment center for children, families in Santa Maria need to travel to get that treatment.

It can be a tough battle emotionally and financially.

The Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation provides financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer Santa Barbara, Ventura,  and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Susie Duane, co-owner of Custom Workouts, said “Families who have children that are affected by cancer can benefit from the money raised today.”

Duane said, “My boyfriend has multiple myeloma, and didn’t want a fundraiser done for him but we wanted to do something that benefits the community locally.”

Two groups came together in the fundraising efforts and sweat for a cause, Life Purpose Boot Camp and Custom Workouts.

Funds raised will help local families.
