VENTURA, Calif. - California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run accident that occurred earlier in July in Ventura County.
The crash took place on Thursday, July 6 just before midnight on US 101 near Victoria Avenue.
Authorities say Patrick John McVicker, 48, of Ventura was driving his 2011 Audi S5 northbound on US 101 at a high rate of speed.
69-year-old John Slade of Ojai was also driving his 2013 Toyota Prius northbound on US 101.
For reasons that are under investigation, McVicker and the Audi collided with the Toyota and drove through a guardrail. The vehicle continued off the road, rolling onto its side and sustaining major damage.
Slade and the Toyota also lost control and collided with a guardrail and center divider wall which left major damage to the vehicle.
After the collision, McVicker fled the scene on foot, abandoning his passenger and Slade.
Slade received major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. Hospital staff determined that Slade had major internal injuries and he was taken to intensive critical care unit.
The next morning Slade was pronounced deceased at VCMC.
The crash is being investigated as a felony hit and run traffic collision by the California Highway Patrol’s Special Investigations Unit.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Patrick John McVicker and authorities are asking for the public's help locating him.
McVicker is a white male, 6 feet tall, weighing 225 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has ties to Ventura County including the Ventura, Ojai and Oxnard area.
