It was a day at the movies for 4000 students in Santa Barbara Thursday taking part in a field trip to the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara.
But it's a unique movie experience for these boys and girls.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival's program Mike's Movie Field Trip is all about learning the art of film-making.
The idea came years ago to the late cinematographer Mike Degruy, and today it provides an out-of-the-classroom experience unlike any other.
In addition to seeing a new 3D film, students also get to ask questions to the filmmakers which can be very inspiring.
"I hope they realize that there's something to their creativity," said Jennifer Lee, the director of Disney's Frozen. "And I think we showed it still takes tons of hard work. But it's a little more focused, like focusing on your creativity is okay to do."
To guarantee that undeserved populations can experience this opportunity, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival provides free transportation to students from Title I schools.
