The matchup between Carpinteria and Santa Ynez has become a week 0 tradition, this year Santa Ynez comes away victorious.

The Pirates who notched just two wins a year ago edged the Warriors 23-17, and the win marks the return of head coach Ken Gruendyke who stepped down after the 2004 season.

Santa Ynez is home for week 1 and will host Lompoc, Carpinteria will try to get in the win column and will travel to Morro Bay.
