For the past six years, the Ventura Cougars as well as the rest of the Channel League, have been playing follow the leader. That leader has been the Santa Barbara Dons who have won the last six Channel League titles.

But that league championship winning streak is in jeopardy this season after the Dons lost to Ventura 1-0 Thursday night at Santa Barbara High.

Geoff Brown put his foot on a high bouncing rebound and floated a beautiful ball from thirty yards over the outstretched hand of Dons goalkeeper Emmanuel Angulo in the 16th minute of the first half for the only goal of the game.

Santa Barbara suffered just its second loss of the season (19-2-1) while Ventura improved to 17-3-3.
