LOMPOC, Calif. - It was a success for SpaceX and Iridium NEXT on Sunday afternoon.
Team Vandenberg teamed up with SpaceX for the successful launch of the Falcon 9. The rocket sent ten Iridium NEXT satellites into space. Iridium will be sending more satellites into space over the course of six launches to follow Sunday's.
The Company's goal is to enable new capabilities for global aircraft surveillance and bring broadband speeds to the world's most remote locations. They tout they will have the world's largest commercial satellite network which will cover one hundred percent of the earth.
This was the first launch for Col. Michael S. Hough, 30th Space Wing commander, since he took command on June 9, 2017.
SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched at 1:25 p.m. from the Space Launch Complex 4E on Vandenberg Air Force Base.
