SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Though U.S. Forest Service crews are still mopping up the last of the holiday weekend White Fire, designated park campgrounds and picnic areas reopened Saturday.

This, the first opening since the ravaging fire that claimed some 2,000 acres, allowed evacuees the chance to collect their belongings and campers with upcoming campsite reservations to survey the territory.

The Forest Service says the fire danger is still high and asks everyone in and around the park to be careful with campfires and avoid smoking.
