A three week program in Santa Barbara could help smokers kick the habit through a hypnotherapy plan.
It's run by Clinical Hypnotherapist Rebekka Putnam who says after the first session, you completely stop using cigarettes because of a change you make with the way your mind thinks about tobacco and nicotine.
"Within the first week they will be done smoking and the two follow up weeks, are reinforcements to change any of those agreements so they don't go back to it. So we focus on quitting and we focus on staying quit," said Putnam.
As 2014 begins, "it is a big push this time of year, a lot of people want to get healthier, and people are really enjoying being empowered about their health right now. There is a big movement about making choices about their health care and what they want to be and how do they want to look and how do they want to feel. It's private and convenient."
One former smoker Garrett Swann says he once thought smoking was cool, and patterned his mannerisms after some people on the big screen with the "cigarette and martini" look. After taking the hypnotherapy course his mind told him smoking was smelly and disgusting. "I smelled like a dirty ash tray. It was pretty gross and now I smell pretty, all the time," he said.
He also said it's helped him reduce stress and control other issues in his life. "Actually my stress level has come down, which is really great," said Swann.
