SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A teenage girl is in the hospital after she was hit by a car near Pioneer Valley High School.
Santa Maria police officers responded to the school at 3 p.m. Thursday and found the girl laying in the roadway. Investigation revealed she was crossing the street when a car going south on Panther Drive hit her.
Police said she sustained minor injuries to her face and was transported by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police said they want to remind drivers and pedestrians to always use caution around schools during the day.
Santa Maria said pedestrians should always use crosswalks.
