VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE - United Launch Alliance successfully launched a Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base early Saturday morning.
The launch comes on the heels of multiple reschedulings due to weather.
The rocket was carrying the Joint Polar Satellite System-1 -- a polar-orbiting environmental satellite system. The satellite system will assist in weather forecasting and assessing environmental hazards, according to a press release.
The rocket also carried five "CubeSats" which will conduct research related to in-space manufacturing.
The launch was postponed twice during the week due to unfavorable weather conditions.
United Launch Alliance's next launch is scheduled for December 13 from Vandenberg.
