SANTA MARA, Calif. -

Today, the city of Santa Maria paid tribute to one of two firefighters that paid the ulitimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Joe Alexander died on January 22nd, 1969. Alexander was driving a fire engine responding to a house fire when he suffered a heart-attack. At the time, he was the only firefighter in the city's history to have died on duty.

Alexander's daughter, Wanda Acquistapace, was at the ceremony this morning. She says she's thankful for the city remembering her father.

"It is a huge testimony to him but its also a testament to every man who's serving right now because they put their lives in danger constantly," says says.

The city of Santa Maria had a similar ceremony last year for Alvin Newton, a firefighter who died while fighting a blaze in 1970.
