The 71st annual Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and Parade is now in the history books. The numbers say this year roped in the best numbers ever.
Huge crowds packed the stands at the Santa Maria Elks Unocal Event Center during the four day long event.
Beginning Thursday with the Mini Rodeo to the conclusion on Sunday with the PRCA action, this year's rodeo proved to be a big winner for the thousands of fans who attended.
Organizers were aiming to provide entertainment for the whole family and they say it looks like all of their hard work paid off.
"We had a great, great year," said Johnna Clark, a spokesperson for the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo. "We set records last year and happy to announce it looks like we surpassed all those records."
This year also saw the much anticipated return of the Queen competition, a longtime Elks Rodeo tradition. Combined, the five contestants raised more than $200,000, which will go right back into the community.
