SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

Santa Maria Bonita school district, a K-8th grade school district is the biggest elementary school districts in the county.  School started on Tuesday.

Spokesperson for the school, Maggie White, said, “First day enrollment is always crazy they won’t know what enrollment is for first week a lot of times students move.”

White said there is a lot of movement in the community and some people didn’t realize school started on Tuesday and people were registered their children last night.

Enrollment last year, 2013-2014 was 15,600. This year the district anticipates an increase to nearly 16,000.

Most years they have an overflow of 200-300 students and each year the district anticipates growth of 350-450 students.

Santa Maria Bonita has 15 elementary schools and four junior high schools.
