SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Terrifying moments for a nanny in Santa Barbara as she tried to stop a runaway car with two young kids inside. The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Ricardo Avenue.

The woman was unloading the 5 and 2-year-old boys from inside a minivan, when it started to roll. The woman tried to stop the van by getting back into it. But it rolled 30 feet down the hill before crashing into a wall, dragging her with it.

The toddler, who was in the process of being strapped in, suffered a minor arm injury.

The other boy was not hurt. Santa Barbara City Fire officials said the nanny suffered major injuries and was sent straight into surgery at the hospital.

Police investigators are trying to figure out what caused the van to break away.
