UC SANTA BARBARA - About 50 people demonstrated outside the UC Santa Barbara library Thursday afternoon.
The protesters represent gardeners, medical aides and other union workers in the AFSCME, the University of California’s largest union.
AFSCME is in the midst of ongoing contract negotiations with UC campuses statewide.
The protesters claim the UC system’s latest offer includes a 0% wage increase for the next 5 years, as well as benefit cuts and the privatization of their retirement plans.
We’re seeking reaction from the UC system about the contract negotiations. Watch KEYT NewsChannel 3 and KCOY 12 Central Coast News at 5 and 6 tonight for a full report.
