SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The identity of a man hit and killed by a train in Santa Barbara has been released.
The Santa Barbara Police Department identified the victim as Jason Thomas Perea, 44, of Citrus Heights.
Police said Perea had been living transient in the city for the lasy year, and had prioro contact with the department.
His autopsy report showed his cause and manner of death, " ... appears to be blunt force trauma from the impact."
On February 22, 2017 at around 6:15 p.m. authorities responded to the railroad track crossing at Montecito and Bath in Santa Barbara. An Amtrak train had struck a pedestrian, which we now know to be Perea.
Officers said he had been trying to cross the tracks when witnesses said he tried to beat the train.
Next of kin has been notified.
