Tech Sector Driving Economic Recovery

California job seekers won't find as many conventional jobs

Tech Jobs Drive California's Economic Recovery

GOLETA, Calif. - Network Hardware Resale held its first job fair and tech symposium at its global headquarters in Goleta, on Thursday.

The company that sells nearly new equipment and services starts in a garage in the late 1980s.

CEO Mike Sheldon said NHR weathered the recession and plans to hire about 100 people in the next nine months.

By holding a job fair the company will have a pool of people to choose from.

By hosting a tech symposium the company gave members of the public a chance to see how technology is driving the economy.

Mark Schniepp, the director of the California Economic Forecast, said you can't rely on construction, manufacturing, public sector or retail jobs anymore.

Schniepp said tech jobs such as data processing, semiconducting, and software engineering are in demand.

He said entry level and service jobs are being replaced by robots.

Schniepp compared the job opportunities following past recessions and noticed higher unemployment due to the changing employment opportunities.
