SANTA YNEZ VALLEY, Calif. - Motorists can now expect to see 45 mph speed limit signs along state Route 246 from Alamo Pintado Road to Edison Street in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Caltrans has reduced the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph on this stretch of road. The goal is to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and students around Santa Ynez Valley High School.
"This was a cooperative effort with the community and the California Highway Patrol so we are very pleased with the outcome. This achievement is consistent with our mission to keep safety as a top priority," said Caltrans District 5 Director Tim Gubbins.
Newly activated electronic boards will inform motorists driving through the area about the new speed limit.
