SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Amgen Tour is skipping Solvang this year because Solvang says it costs too much to host it and hurts some businesses too.
They hosted a time trial for the cyclists for the last four years and and streets were closed down for hours.
While restaurants and hotels did well, novelty shops on those streets say they lost customers instead.
This year the race will take State Route 154, and shops say that is close enough where they'll still see a boost in business, but far enough for their streets to remain open.
It would have cost the city $120,000 to host the race this year--that pays for rooming and feeding cyclists, and traffic control.
