Sheriff Says Key Isla Vista Deltopia Vandal Still Being Sought

Calls young male suspect who threw a brick through a van window the 'number one' person he wants arrested

Deltopia Vandal Suspect

ISLA VISTA, Calif. - NewsChannel 3 video shows the person Sheriff Bill Brown calls the "number one" person he wants to arrest three days after the Isla Vista Deltopia riot.

The young male is seen picking up a brick and throwing it through a van window. The vehicle was the focus of a rowdy, destructive  crowd.  Damage is expected to be in the thousands of dollars.  It's unknown why the van was targeted.

Sheriff Bill Brown told the Santa Barbara County Supervisors, the person caught on camera is actively being sought.

The images have been shown repeatedly in NewsChannel 3 coverage, but an inspection of unpublished pictures, shows the suspect yelling into a camera with his face in clear view.

The two images have now been aired side by side.

He is a young male wearing a black Deltopia hat.

The melee resulted in 130 arrests, over 40 people were hospitalized, and six law officers were wounded including one who required 20 stitches to his head.

Brown said the four hour street conflict required him to call in over 100 additional officers from surrounding agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, Ventura County Sheriff,  Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Lompoc, and Santa Maria Police, and also State Parks Rangers.

Many of those booked on criminal violations are expected to appear this week in Santa Barbara Superior Court for their arraignments.

District Attorney Joyce Dudley, Tuesday, said her office was still receiving the files on those arrested from the Sheriff's department.

Brown says most of those booked for suspected crimes were from out of the area, but there were also many students from UC Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara City College who were also part of the alleged criminal activity.
