SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria Police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year. They say this one was between two men who got into a physical fight.
26-year-old Ismael Jacinto-Cruz was arrested on the scene Saturday night. Officers say he was involved in a fight at an apartment on the 1000 block of West Orange Street.
When they arrived, they found a male dead inside. After talking to witnesses, police say it all started when things got physical.
"The suspect may have hit him with an object I don't know but there was no stabbing no shooting. It was a physical fight," said Santa Maria Police Lt. James Ginter.
Jacinto-Cruz was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on murder charges.
The victim has not been identified.
