Santa Maria High School Administrators Shave Heads

Promise Kept After Three Years of Increased Test Scores

Santa Maria High School Principal Shaves Head

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - It was a promise made three years ago when low test scores threatened a major multi-million dollar grant the school had.

Principal Joe Domingues approached students and asked them to work harder for higher scores and students asked for something in return.  Domingues, assistant principals and students agreed on shaved heads.

The kids found out they recently reached that goal and since then, there's been nothing short of taunting reminders.

"We're like, 'Oh...snip snip!'" said high school junior Brian Nol with one hand mimicking a scissor.

"Now it's like every day," said Domingues, "they're taunting us everyday!"

Santa Maria High School's test score placed last in the county when the promise was made.

Now, they're making their way to academic excellence.

In fact, the score jump in the last three years is the largest in all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County.

Go Saints!
