Santa Barbara Jewish Festival celebrates 30 years

Celebration of Israel's Indepedence Day

Jewish Federation raises funds for an 'ambucycle'

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Jewish Festival celebrated 30 years on Sunday at Plaza Del Mar in Santa Barbara.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara organizes the annual event. Organizers say the festival is the largest community-wide Jewish culture festival on the Central Coast.

The festival welcomes thousands of visitors every year to experience Jewish food, music and culture.

"It's a wonderful milestone for a community of our size, especially to have a program here today with Israeli dancing, food, culture, all sorts of organizations and even organizations from Israel," said Executive Director Michael Rassler.

One Israeli organization at Sunday's festival was United Hatzalah. Their mission is to provide fast emergency medical response throughout Israel free of charge. United Hatzalah offers their services to all people regardless of race, religion or national origin.

The Jewish Federation and United Hatzalah are trying to raise at least $36,000 to purchase and ship a motorcycle ambulance to Santa Barbara's sister city of Mitzpe Ramon.

For more information about United Hatzalah, visit their website.
