SANTA YNEZ, Calif. - Singing competition "Rising Star" kicks off Saturday night at the Chumash Casino.
More than 100 people, 18 and up, auditioned from Ventura County to San Luis Obispo, and it's down to the final 12.
Organizers are expecting a packed house, and the audience will be able to use their cellphones to cast their votes.
The grand price includes $5000, an opportunity to record in a world class studio and mentoring with platinum recording artist J.R. Richards. They will also have a chance to open up at the Chumash Casino.
The show starts 7 p.m. Saturday with Shirin Rajaee as mistress of ceremonies.
