GOLETA, Calif. - Erosion along the Goleta Beach coast is again a serious concern after the weekend storm wiped out a large chunk of the popular site.
For years, Santa Barbara County leaders and Goleta residents have debated the future of the beach.
Some want nature to run its course. But that may mean the loss of two parking lots and a section of the popular grass area used by families, and to hold events.
Others favor a sand berm or rock-style barrier.
The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the matter March 18th.
Last weekend, during a vicious winter storm, large sections of the beach and the parkland were wiped out. An orange fence is protects the public from falling off a five foot drop along the edge of the park.
