SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara Police have visible patrols around Santa Barbara City College with the start of the new school year. Several drivers have been pulled over for moving violations this week.
Traffic officers working on Cliff Drive spotted vehicles speeding, and drivers using their cell phones against the law. They also stopped cars with illegally tinted windows and missing license plates.
Residents say the streets around the campus have become impacted by the thousands of students attending the school.
An off campus neighborhood parking sticker policy has been implemented to make sure residents do not lose parking places by their homes when students are looking around for close parking off campus.
Many parking enforcement officers have been working in the area to find violators and educate them on the off campus laws. That mostly results in tickets left under their windshield wipers. That illegal parking ticket runs nearly $50.
Along with a specific location by SBCC, the traffic patrol officers were also moving to different areas of the city including streets near elementary schools.
