CARPINTERIA, Calif. - Uncommon weather occurrences continue to hit southern Santa Barbara County, the latest happening in Carpinteria.
Susan Robbins and her husband Jim were near the orchards near Casitas Pass Road and State Route 192 when they witnessed a large bolt of lightning strike hit the ground.
As the pair investigated they discovered a palm tree fully engulfed in flames, presumably from the lightning strike.
They called 911 and their sons alerted the property owner about the fiery tree.
The family helped direct Carpinteria firefighters to the tree and we are told the fire was put out in about 10 minutes.
Kudos to the Robbins family for their quick-thinking and the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire for their hard work!
