CARPINTERIA, Calif. - One of the 58 people killed by a crazed gunman during the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas was remembered by her community members Friday night.
Denise Cohen was a Carpinteria resident. She and her friend Derrick "Bo" Taylor went to the country music festival together and both were killed during the mass shooting.
Cohen was planning to volunteer for the second year at the 30th annual California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria.
“She was always full of joy and always happy," said Anthony Staal, a California Avocado Festival board member.
A band called Dusty Jugs dedicated an hour of their performance at the festival to Cohen.
“We just thought it would be kind of fitting that we dedicate one of our shows to her. So tonight at 9 o’clock, the Dusty Jugs are playing a little country music," said Staal.
