MONTECITO, Calif. - An injured hiker was rescued Monday afternoon after injuring her knee on a Montecito-area hiking trail.
At around 1 p.m., a female hiker in her 40's was hiking down the East Fork of the Cold Springs Trail in the mountains above Montecito when her right knee gave out.
She was unable to support her weight and could not continue walking. Her hiking partners were unable to carry the injured woman down the trail and called 911.
The Montecito Fire District and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SBCSAR) team responded for a search and rescue operation.
After some confusion, the hiker was determined to be approximately one mile up from the trailhead on Mountain Drive on the East Fork.
Paramedics from Montecito Fire reached the injured woman and called for a stretcher to carry her to safety.
Personnel from Montecito Fire and SBCSAR carried the woman out on a stokes stretcher down the trail to the trailhead where she was released to go to the hospital for further care.
