Graduation Ceremony Honors Student Killed in Accident

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sergio Romero would have graduated from San Marcos High School Thursday, but his life was cut short when he was struck and killed by a teen driver.

The accident happened in October  2011. Romero, 15, was walking across the 700 block of  Milpas Street inside the crosswalk- when he was struck and killed by a truck driven by a 19-year-old who stayed at the scene and later pleaded no contest.

Romero, a San Marcos sophomore, was supposed to to perform with his band at the Avocado Festival the night he was killed.

Thursday his family walked with the class of 2014 across the graduation stage at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara.

It was a bittersweet moment for all of the people who knew and loved him.

Friends have said they will never forget his smile or the way he played his electric guitar.

He wanted to be a rock star.
