SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Family and friends gathered at the Welch-Ryce Funeral Chapel in Santa Barbara Wednesday afternoon to pay respects to 33-year-old Crescencio Ramos Ramirez.
Ramirez drowned tragically on March 30th trying to save the life of his close friend's granddaughter. Witnesses say he saw the young girl struggle in the water and jumped in after her, but got stuck in a rip current.
Ramirez leaves behind two young sons.
Those that knew Ramirez attended the rosary and viewing at Welch-Ryce to honor the life of the 33-year-old.
On Thursday, a funeral mass will be held for Ramirez at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Barbara's eastside.
Ramirez's co-workers, friends and family have been trying to raise money for his funeral. Their goal is to transport his remains back to his native Mexico so he can be with his mother.
