SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara City firefighters spent portions of Thursday training on rescue techniques for confined spaces.
Confined spaces are those tight cracks, crevices, pipes and drains that firefighter have to go into to save trapped victims. The training is a yearly recertification for the department.
Firefighters created a training site at the Cater Water Treatment Plant in Santa Barbara. Different scenarios were given to fire crews and they had to save the victim.
"Basically once a year we get everyone together we pull out all this equipment and we go over scenarios like it's a real-life drill," firefighter Jason Fernandes said.
Nearly 30 city firefighters participated in the training.
