SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Chapala Street Bridge replacement project is finally over, in fact ahead of schedule.
The public attended a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning as the city unveiled the new bridge.
The old bridge was over 100-year old was deemed structurally deficient and needed better flood control.
It was replaced with a concrete bridge and additional features were added as well. Landscaping, new sidewalks, 5 additional streetlights were put up to enhance safety and the pedestrian experience.
Mayor Helene Schneider thanked the residents for their patience during the 7-months of construction and boasted about the benefits.
The bridge is just one of a series being re-done on mission creek. The Mason Street Bridge project is next, scheduled for late summer.
