$350,000 Repair Job Strengthens Stearns Wharf

Pilings, and planks part of the project

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Annual maintenance work on Stearns Wharf at the Santa Barbara waterfront is wrapping up.  Repairs this year ran $350,000.

Crews have pounded 46 new pilings into place, and added a variety of pile caps and new wood to the wharf.

The landmark took a hard hit in the March 1 storm which added additional repairs to the project that was already planned.

The wharf is one of the oldest working piers in the state.

It dates back to 1872, and to this date it is one of the most popular tourist stops.

Annually the wharf sees about two million visitors.
