SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Just before midnight Wednesday California Highway Patrol received a 911 call of a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle.

The crash occurred on Gibraltar Road North of El Cielito Road. A 31-year old man from Santa Barbara, Miguel Bruno Reyes, was driving a 1991 Toyota 4Runner Northbound on Gibraltar Road when he ran into a bush.

The Toyota continued through the bush and down a steep embankment into a canyon, rolling over several times in the process, before coming to a rest.

The road was closed for about two hours while Santa Barbara Search and Rescue personnel extricated Reyes from the Toyota.

Reyes was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries including a broken left clavicle and forehead contusion.

Alcohol was determined to be a factor in the collision and Reyes was subsequently arrested for DUI.
