SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

It's been one year since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and a local memorial service is planned Saturday to honor the victims.

The Santa Barbara Coalition Against Gun Violence is hosting the event at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara.

This anniversary is bringing city and county leaders together to raise awareness about gun violence and the need for stronger gun control laws.

"You need some federal legislation that covers the entire country and closes loopholes so that all children and all individuals are safe wherever they are," says Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider.

The interfaith memorial begins at noon.  The coalition says each day in America, seven children die as a result of a firearm.
