Man pulled from waters of Morro Bay dies

Morro Bay experiencing 28-foot swells

MORRO BAY, Calif. - According to a press release from the City of Morro Bay, the 65-year-old man pulled from the waters of Morro Bay has died.

He has been identified as John Robbie Ross of Atascadero. His next of kin has been notified.

An elderly man was pulled from the waves at Morro Bay Saturday morning after losing consciousness among the strong surf.

The 65-year-old man was seen floating in the water adjacent to the north side of Morro Rock.

Rescue personnel from the Morro Bay Fire Department and Harbor Department entered the water and pulled the unconscious person through the surf to the beach where they began CPR

The person was transported to the hospital by ambulance while responders continued to administer CPR. The man's condition is unclear at this time.

Morro Bay has experienced 28-foot waves during the latest round of winter storms. The entrance to the bay has been closed due to the extreme weather conditions.

The city of Morro Bay would like to remind the community that although Morro Rock is an excellent place to observe the latest weather conditions, it is incredibly important that all observers pay attention to all signage and taped off areas. Violent surf conditions can be deadly.
