SLO County Grand Jury Wants Changes to Food Safety Reports

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- - The San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury completed their review of how the County's Health Agency informs the public about the food safety of county restaurants.

San Luis Obispo (SLO) has a food safety system in place.  According to the Grand Jury, the information is easily accessible to the dining public.

California law requires the most recent inspection report is available to the consumer but it's doesn't require that it's displayed anywhere  or that the report  is usable by the public.

Having the inspection form  may be all that's required by California law. Counties can make more stringing posting requirements.

In its report the Grand Jury states there is a missing component to Health Agency's public education efforts.

Kitchen manager at Novo restaurant, Ben Richardson agrees. Richardson said, "Having something visible for the customer reflects the hard work the restaurant puts into food safety."
