Armed Robbery At San Luis Obispo Panda Express

Near-by school goes on short lockdown during suspect search

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The San Luis Obispo Police Department released the following information:

At 2:10 p.m. Friday, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery had just occurred inside the Panda Express located at 1508 Froom Ranch in San Luis Obispo.

An unknown suspect, described as a white male in his twenties wearing a black ball cap, black t-shirt, black shorts with a blue medical type face mask, entered the restaurant through the side entrance.

After entering, the suspect approached an employee behind the front counter near the cash register and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun while demanding money. The employee told the suspect there was no money in the drawer and suspect walked out the front of the business.

Employees watched the suspect walk east along Los Osos Valley Road before crossing the street. Employees lost sight of the suspect as he began crossing the street and it is unknown where he went. After learning the direction of travel when the suspect fled and because of the close proximity to the Pacific Beach school campus they were placed on lockdown at 2:23 p.m.

Officers responded to the school and cleared the campus. The lockdown was lifted at 2:44 after officer determined the suspect was not on campus. The police department does not believe the suspect ever entered the campus and it was searched as a precaution only.
